I have the same issue with other projects like:

The selected project shortname ideastorm could not be found.

It's a known problem as you can see this message in simplytest.me when fails:

There's currently an issue with spawning some distributions
This is being investigated. Other operations should be normal.

This should be fixed based on #3048942

There was an issue with how branches were processed. I confirmed "ideastorm" is working.

I still cannot see how "social" is working though. It doesn't seem to be loading the project at all - is this the shortname for the project?

I am marking as "Closed (duplicate)" because I believe the primary issue is fixed here. i may need more details for Open Social

Back to the original purpose of this issue. social is definitely the short name of the Open Social project: https://www.drupal.org/project/social

So, right now, social does appear in the project dropdown:

BUT I do get an error on installation about composer.lock being inconsistent:

Looks like the error on #6 is related to #3405187

This issue happens with all modules and drupal core for 8.x version.
