Strange one here.
If I copy securesite-page.tpl.php to my themes directory for custom theming page-front.tpl.php takes priority and renders. If I remove securesite-page.tpl.php from my theme's directory the module default securesite-page.tpl.php renders as is expected.
I've attached a patch to work around this behavior and allows to overide securesite-page.tpl.php as expected.
