Hi there,

from 2014 until now I have been one of the initiative leads for Rules in Drupal 8. Thanks to the help from many sponsors & contributors, we have finished milestone 1 and milestone 2. Due to lack of resources and funding we haven't been able to make big progress recently though. I wrote about our current status here.

In order to make further progress there are many ideas: get more funding, find more developers but I think one key aspect would be to relive this initiative. In order to do so, I would like to change my role from initiative coordinator more towards initiative coach and make room for new leadership in the #d8rules initiative team.

To move the #d8rules initiative forward, I'm looking for help. I think it would be awesome if we could get one or multiple new initiative members on board to

  • Help organize the initiative
  • Run regular initiative meetings
  • Keep participants up to date
  • Develop the MVP & Rules Roadmap
  • Bring people together
  • Secure funding

From my side, I would be happy to

  • Provide support to onboard new initiative members
  • Let you know how I have been running the initiative so far
  • Handover initiative coordination tasks
  • Provide feedback & coaching to the new initiative team

I wanted to start this as an open discussion here. If you are interested or have thoughts about the future for #d8rules, thanks for your comments.

Priority: Normal » Critical

I'll raise the priority of this one as I see the initiative being at risk of getting stalled again. I'd be really happy to see if we could come to a more sustainable setup.

It seems to me that the bottleneck right now is @fago - if he doesn't participate in the Rules and Typed Data API issue queues, doesn't give feedback to people who are trying to contribute, and doesn't review any patches or commit RTBC patches, then progress CANNOT be made. It's frustrating to put in a lot of work only to be ignored. Right now Rules isn't even keeping up with changes in core (see the ever-growing list of failing tests that used to run green only a few months ago).

I don't think any amount of funding or meetings or discussion can help until @fago finds a way to maintain this project.

i do believe Rules are very important for drupal ecosystem. without rules, drupal just doesnt look complete. i really hope @dasjo can arrange important meeting with top drupal leaders and fagos to see how this project can go stable without anymore interruption.
