Would there be any way to set up the slideshow for this theme to appear as a block? That way we could go into the configuration and have full control over which pages the slideshow will appear on. That would provide a much needed middle ground between only having it on the home page and having it on all pages.

Yes, you can make the slideshow as a block.

That is what I tried today. I installed flexslider_views_slideshow_7.x-2.x-dev, flexslider-7.x-2.0-alpha1.tar. First I used the latest Flexslider-master (version 2.0 from https://github.com/woothemes/FlexSlider). That gave at least a conflict with the direction pointers, the left arrow was the only one shown. Even after disabeling the default slide show in the theme. It is a compatibility issue.

I found out that the Premium Responsive Theme is still based upon version 1.8 flexslider, so I downloaded that older one from https://github.com/woothemes/FlexSlider to put in /libraries/flexslider. The theme uses the same js, but that script is in the folder js within the theme.

After this everything works fine, even with the newer Drupal modules next to it. You can make a block with the flexslider view and disable the original slideshow. Using these modules add lots of other options.
