Only when one of the other menu items (in the primary menu) are active is the first menu item unset. On any page *not connected with any of the menu items* the first menu item is set to active.

Firefox has the problem on mac but *not* on ubuntu.

So far the only browser without the problem has been Firefox specifically on ubuntu.
