When the related links module is installed, it interacts with drupal permissions.
If related links is turned on for a specific content type, then all roles that have permission to add related links will also have permission to create a content type.

4x3 CreditAttribution: 4x3 commentedHad the same issue, it was preventing me from giving add content editing abilities to the role associated with that content type.
Solution was to disable the Content Type in > admin/config/search/relatedlinks under Content types > Select the content types to associate with this module. Related links blocks and forms will only appear for these nodes.
