I've tested this and it is working. I will mark it RTBC for now.

This change is extensive. As per request, I'm assigning this issue to the main maintainer @void--, to get final approvement. I will commit this patch in a week if there are no objections.

Are there plans for support for Comment Notify in the release soon? I tried to patch the current dev using the patch in this thread but it failed.
