In purl_init provider callbacks should be activated first before "drupal_path_initialize" is called.

Calling purl_get_normal_path with the activate flag set does not rely on drupal_path_initialize being called first. By calling it before initialize you give time for spaces to activate it's variable overrides for front_page etc..
