Recently, a dedicated group of volunteers launched the first version of a Drupal pitch deck. The goal is to have a set of marketing materials that agencies can use to pitch Drupal.

International participation is part of the Drupal’s Values & Principles, and part of the success of this pitch deck project will be its use around the globe. To achieve that, we want to make as much of the material available in as many languages as possible.

Paul Johnson, Ricardo Amaro, and I have put together some ideas for a system that would use a Drupal website to manage the versioned content and translations for the slides. Lingotek, has offered a free instance of their translation management tool to facilitate translation at scale by volunteers, and to generate slide decks on the front-end we are planning to explore existing frameworks like Reveal.js, together with Views. Here are some details of the proposal.

We want to make sure that the solution is inclusive, accessible, and easy to maintain. Ideas on the architecture/implementation are welcome!

CTI Digital have volunteered to undertake the development of the Drupal site necessary to handle all the slide content. The team are working locally and have met with Lingotek to ensure the solution integrates with their platform.

We expect to have a working solution available within the next 2 weeks allowing for translators to start work.

The solution is currently being built in house by our graduate developer, M.Rob. with myself providing support. Together, we have produced a proof of concept which allowed us to populate several items of content in English. This content was then passed through the Lingotek module and translated into both German and Spanish.

We are a number of steps away from producing the final product but steady progress is being made towards this initial aspect of the development.

With the guidance and support from fellow Drupal developers, Gareth & Paul, I have been given the responsibility to create a Drupal Pitch Deck presentation which can be used to translate into as many languages as possible through the Lingotek translation module.

Along with Gareth, we’ve had the privilege to meet Lingotek, ask questions and discuss how the project will be further developed and delivered. The project is still in early stages of development and progress has been made in achieving our goal. I also gave a brief pitch explaining the background of the project to my fellow Drupal colleagues during one of our weekly team meetings.

We have been using lingotek.com for the translation interface together with https://www.dpd.p.ctidigital.com for adding slides. We are now developing a way for exporting the translated slides using reveal.js format. See: https://www.drupal.org/project/promote_drupal/issues/3091421

During DrupalCon, I made a changes to the Drupal Pitch Deck configuration in relation to image styles. Header images are now displayed full-width instead of thumbnails.

@mrobctidigitalcom & I also spent some time investigating how the Lingotek translation module integrates with core language config. We wanted to know whether it was possible to define custom languages in Drupal and push these out for translation via Lingotek. At this moment in time, it is not possible to do so - languages must exist in the external Lingotek system first.

For languages that are available from the Lingotek dashboard, it is not necessary to change language settings in Core as Lingotek automatically manages the configuration mapping.

I have been working with my team at Lingotek to provide the translation base for the Drupal Pitch Deck

This has used the Lingotek Drupal Translation plug in, we have all content source uploaded and we have 15 love languages across 80 case studies. Great involvement t so far, 50 signed up translators from the community, we need more and will be issuing updates weekly.

Great initiative a global pitch deck
