User Details

User Details admin

I have started to port User Details to Drupal 8. Keep an eye on D8 port issue for more info.

If you are reporting a issue please make sure to give as much information as possible so I can re-produce the issue.

The "User Details" module comes with two blocks, "User Detils: logged-in user" and "User Details: authored user".

Background

The idea for "User Details" started as a request from an end-user, to have a centreal place for quick links to important locations on the website.
For Drupal 6 this was just some custom code you could add to a custom block.
For Drupal 7 the "User Details" module has expanded to its own module, which allows non-coders to alter and customize to thier liking.

Overview

The "User Details" module is a basic collection of user data (or variables) and commonly used links in a block. In no way is this a required part of any website, only for the ease of naviagtion.
Below is a list of all the stats and links that can be turned on as part of the "User Details" blocks. The links come with some default images, but you can change these by uploading an image to your web server and typing in the location for each image.

Configuration

Tracking Configuration Screen

The configuration management module enables the ability to keep track of specific configurations on a Drupal site, provides the ability to move these configurations between different environments (local, dev, qa, prod), and also move configurations between completely different sites (migrate configurations).

For the most part this module provides the same functionality as the features module. Features module is currently the go to tool for moving configuration from environment to environment and site to site, and it does a great job doing this, but "configuration management" was never really what features was intended to do. The goal of features module was to group configurations together to satisfy a certain use-case. Instead most people use features to export configuration to code to ease with deployment between environments. Many of us have experienced the shortcomings of using features module for configuration management and found where it doesn't quite work to easily manage configuration. A couple other modules have spawned off to help with some of these shortcomings: features override, features plumber, Features Tools.

Syndeploy

Syndeploy diagram

Let's say that you want to deploy content from your staging site to production, or more generally, from one site to another (or multiple) sites. You could use Deployment, but what if you prefer a pull model over a push model? Then Syndeploy is for you. Changes are published via a feed, and then other sites can slurp them in. The slurping portion is to be handled by a corresponding Feeds processor plug-in.
