In the middle of June, 2015, usage statistics for the Publication Date module show a more than 500% increase in the use of the Drupal 6 version. While I suppose it is technically possible that 1,000 Drupal 6 sites all installed this module within the course of a week, or suddenly decided to activate the update module, it does seem highly suspect. Usage of the Drupal 6 version had been slowly, but steadily decreasing over the last couple years, with the June 6 report showing only 245 installs.

Perhaps coincidentally, around that same time use of my Drupal 7 versions, which had been on a pretty steady uphill climb, dipped and stagnated. This could be explained by people moving to D8, I suppose, but taken all together it again seems suspicious.
