Problem/Motivation
Once pfdp has been installed and activated, the module blocks access to files obtained/delivered by Commerce File/License modules to users (except for the Admin) - these files are located in the "private" directory. After deactivating and uninstalling pfdp, all files located in private return a "network error" (source file cannot be read"), even on the product/file admin interface.
Error is similar as the one described here : https://www.drupal.org/project/backup_migrate/issues/3228379
Steps to reproduce
Install Drupal commerce File + License
Add product files - All ok
Install pfdp : users can't access their Licensed files
Uninstall pfdp : network error on download
Proposed resolution
I haven't found any solutions after :
- checked the rights of the private directory (permissions)
- uninstalled, deleted, cleared cache, directory, updated etc.
- tried all combinations of pfdp parameters
- checked my SSL settings
etc

zanonmark commentedHi,
first of all, apologies for replying so late.
1) You said "uninstalling pdfp", You mean You physically deleted the directory from the /modules directory, right?
2) After uninstalling PFDP, is Configuration > Media > File System ok, i.e.: is the Default downloading method still set to Private?
3) If You have raw access to the machine, could You please report some lines from, say, syslog or error.log?
Thanks,
MZ

zanonmark commentedAlso, was there some update in Commerce modules in these months which may have fixed the issue?
Because it sounds like a bug on their side, which does not show when PFDP is installed because it may (depending on the settings) override the default download code...
Thanks,
MZ

alphex commentedJust updating this thread with a recent episode of this.
I tried to use pfdp to solve a different problem, and found that users who have a role to bypass license purchase in commerce, and download commerce files... could not. The receive a 403.
I was able to drush pmu pfdp and the expected behavior started working again.
Not sure where the responsibility for this conflict is -- but I wanted to put it in writing so google would help someone in the future. (Probably me, lol).
I didn't need the module any more, but I know I could have started assigning roles to use PFDB, but that would have been a lot of testing at this point in my project.
