The breaking changes introduced in 1.2.1 have been reverted.

Apologies if you have been affected by the breaking changes introduced in yesterday's 1.2.1 release. It was released too early and more thought should have been put into the architecture. We have reverted the changes and introduced a better approach which handles missing caching metadata automatically. Plus we're introducing more caching improvements in the future using the new CacheableMetadata property.
