I inserted the generated code you list (and which is not selectable!) into a block. But there are no slides displayed. I think it needs the Flex Slider module, but there is no such module for 8.0. I am running on OpenSUSE Leap 42.1

Correct, the slideshow and probably other features will not work with PR at this stage, I need to update this theme and I will do this shortly (later this week).
