I have found this module is quite useful for my needs but one major thing is missing. If there are no pending users then nothing is displayed. There should be a default message displayed that there are no pending users. Having a completely blank page could lead a user to wonder if the module is working.

I've added a settings page under admin->configuration->people->pending user notifications, where the option can be made to show the block even when no users are pending. This has been committed to 7.x-1.x, and will be part of the next release.
