I am wonder what the punctuation setting does in pathauto?

Does it allow you to control the encoding based on the dropdown for each symbol?

The only way I could find to stop the encoding of my url was to hack 'drupal_encode_path' which is of course core.

Is there any other way to stop url encoding for certain symbols?

Hi Will. The punctuation settings let you configure what is stripped from the URL alias. If you could provide more detail on your specific issue, someone might be able to suggest a solution.
