There is a dependency of the module. you need install_profile_api, else it's not possible to install openpublish_core

I believe the problem is PHP 5.3

where did you actually place the module? I have placed the install_profile_api in the various module directories and none worked.
or Function ereg() is deprecated in /var/www/openpublish/includes/file.inc on line 911 ??

I'm not sure how this is an issue given that the OP install profile takes care of installing and enabling install_profile_api. There's no scenario where you'd install OpenPublish without it.
