Using group-assigned content types when not in a group

Once I made several fairly generic content types (page, blog post, etc...) available as group posts, they now require anyone that is not a member of a group to join one before they can be used. While this would make sense if they were systematically posted under these groups, that is not the case here (ie you may still want to create a page that doesn't belong to an organic group).

Is there a way to still be able to use these content types without having to join a group? An override of some sort? Cloning the content types is too crufty and out of the question.

If not, is my best option to create a default group and assign it to all users through Organic Groups Mandatory Group? I've tried this out and it works well, but it still means there is essentially a "fake" default group.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
