When attempting to set a page manager variant that depends on the group a user belongs to, the value is not saved (see image below).CTools selection rule. Tracking the issue, it looks like ctools sets $display['type'] to list_default, then the function that gets called is og_ui_field_formatter_view(), which returns null given that display type.

Actually, I think this is partially a duplicate of #1630820: entity_field_value is completely broken.

I also needed this patch #2010124: ctools_access_get_loggedin_context doesn't fully load current user in context.
