It currently appears that anonymous subscriptions are NOT possible. I've enabled the permission and anonymous can add a subscription, but is never asked for an email address. So that won't work.

There are several unattended issues about this. They seem to be ingored.
https://groups.drupal.org/node/15928 offers a comparison of notification modules. It incorrectly states that this module supports anonymous notifications. I assume that is the case only in Drupal 6. With deprecation of the 6.x branche, I suppose that information should be updated. It's now hugely misleading.

There are alternative ways to allow for anonymous notifications. Which is recommended (not conflicting with notifications?)

I am seeing this as well. Has this been addressed anywhere? Is there a workaround?
