Or vice versa?

I've tried toggling many switches, modules weights, etc and just can't seem to get node types to override nodeword defaults...

Anybody else having this issue with nodewords 6.x-1.12-beta9?

Have you tried the -dev version of this module?

The stable release of this module matches the stable release of nodewords, not beta, -dev should be up to date with beta unless anything has changed.

Can we use the nodewords 6.x-1.11 stable version and the dev version of meta tags node type module together? Or we should use latest dev versions both of them?

latest stable should be used with latest, dev with dev. At least that's what I try to keep up with, while I have some time. Recently released 1.8 is to be used with recently released version 1.13 of nodewords.
