With Drupal 8.1, the 8.x-1.4 or dev versions will not install. If you extract them into the modules directory, they are not seen by the Extend page, so they cannot be enabled. There is no info.yml file!

I can't install dev version without required keys (type) in nivo_slider.info.yml file.

Had the same problem on Drupal 8.3.6. Applied the patch and the module shows up on /admin/modules. Enabled it and it seemed to take OK, so marking this as rtbc.

Patch was able to get the module to show on the modules page, but after enabling, there's no admin page.
