I have excluded debug.css in my theme info file but when the page (or part of it) is reloaded through an ajax call, the "blue" background and red outline show up again on elements which have a grid-class (asif debug.css was included anyway which it is not) .

The only remaining reference on my page to the debug.css file I can find, is in jQuery.extend(Drupal.settings, ... ) and I'm assuming it shouldn't be there.

You can also try the #1356742: Display a Show Grid theme setting patch. Marking as a duplicate since there a couple similar issues that are open and being worked on.
