Custom blocks will not save

The four possible columns and multiple regions make Newswire one of the best themes I have seen, but I am experiencing a problem, one peculiar to this theme. Whenever I construct a custom block, anything not inlcuded in the Drupal presets, it won't show in Newswire. The block title is preserved but it appears nowhere. When I switch to other themes the custom blocks are visible, but at the moment any custom blocks I make are invisible to Newswire.

I did create and place one simple test block, a title and some text, while in Acquia Marina and switched back to Newswire and the block remained, but other than by this method I am unable to create or alter custom blocks.

I'm using Drupal 6.9, and I am guessing this is a bug. But it seems so obvious that other people should have seen it by now, and there appears to be no reference to it in previous issues. Am I missing something?
