I have no problem if this get's marked as won't fix, but need a place to host the patch.
Long story short, can't find youtube's ips to configure a bypass for a firewall, but want to still use the ability to embed as a file type (and display the embed, but not the thumbnail). I can expand on this if desired.

rajmataj CreditAttribution: rajmataj commentedThis is fantastic. A choice of whether to use a local thumbnail instead of remote thumbnails would be a welcome addition to the options of the module. I'm working in an environment where the server the Drupal instance is running on is an intranet, cut off from outside access to the web in terms of fetching outside content. When media_youtube tries to get a remote thumbnail from YouTube, it can't and kills the whole process - so the module is pretty much useless to show videos as a result.
Incorporating the ideas in this patch would be really welcomed.
