drupal8 - media_gallery development (start with coder module to port)

Anyone already considered porting media_gallery to drupal8?

I'd like to get involved or even start it (it's a monumental task) but I'd like to help.

I'd consider using the coder module and also ideas from the article: http://webchick.net/upgrade-modules-d8

Or is there a new kind of gallery system completely different in drupal 8 that replaces media_gallery?
