Well, this is probably more of a feature request than a support request, because I don't think this functionality is there yet, but I am checking anyhow...

Is there a way to assign Clean URLs (either with a PathAuto add-on module, or some other method) to the individual media pages, so that they can have URLs like /galleries/burningman/ourcamp instead of /media-gallery/detail/1/15 ? Something where the name of the gallery could become part of the Clean URL would be ideal.

I don't think, that this is possible, there is already another issue about that. See #1118756: Set URL for media on detail page.

thanks Moloc, i checked the issue queue before posting but somehow missed that other issue.
