Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
Videos that I have stored locally on the server show controls only, regardless how I access them (directly from admin/content/media, or as media field in an article or as part of a paragraph).
Sound plays fine, but the screen stays white. Version 8.56 and 8.61.
Is it a bug or do I need a special format (I have tried mp4 and avi)?
Would anyone have a hint?

Opera showed a sign that could be interpreted as something broken, Chrome and Yandex play sound but no video, and finally IE - god bless MS - showed a message "Error - unsupported video type or invalid file path."
what led me to the root of the problem:
It appears that this is not a bug in Drupal. mp4 is good, but browsers need H.264 video compression with it. I used the MyFFVideoConverter to translate my mp4 video into the h.264 version and now localy stored video from admin/content/media plays fine.
