I'm a little lost on this one. I don't think that option was ever available for Mayo. I don't see it for Bartik either. Am I missing something?

If that option never existed I suggest you remove that line from the project page.

I resolved the issue by setting the breadcrumbs block to "none" but nevertheless... I was first spending my time in going over the theme settings...

The project page was written 6 years ago for Mayo 7.x-1.x and much has changed in the different releases that followed. On Drupal.org project pages never list all the changes.

I'm sorry you lost time, but think of all the free time that contributors like myself spend on these projects and maybe you will feel better.
