weird backslash escaping issue after upgrading to 3.x-dev

Hi.

I'm using mailsystem, mime_mail, and smtp.

After upgrading to 3.x-dev, the to: addresses now show up with some backslashes in them. For example, a "forgot password" request ends up sending to this recipient:

To: \'Lyvo\

The body, subject, and everything seem fine. It's just the to address.
