This module seems to be unmaintained, and the functionality it has is fully implemented by the Mail Login module.

Unlike the other module, this module doesn't allow you to configure the user login form label and description, and doesn't work with REST services.

Instead of updating this module for Drupal 9, mark it unsupported and suggest that people use the other module.

I wish I'd seen this issue earlier. mail_login allows for using an email address when authenticating via decoupled apps at /user/login?_format=json, which login_emailusername does not support #2910511: Login with email id using REST API. It makes sense to deprecate login_emailusername.

I've merged the REST issue and created a new version. I will keep this module maintained. I will also put a note on the module page that gives https://www.drupal.org/project/mail_login as an alternative to consider.
