Location Search

Is it possible to use the Location Search feature without installing the Gmap module? If not, is there a way for a user to input their zip code to pull up a list of nodes that relate to the entered zip? For example, I would like users to enter their zip to pull up a list of service locations in their area based on the proximity filter. I have a content type called "Location" that contains all of the address location information for a specific location. I'm just trying to link to it.
