Hi - last months I've been contributing with some contrib modules like search_api working in patches to work with geofield module, then I worked with geofield and I found that leaflet widget is not still ported to D8. I think we could port the module from the code @webflo has in github.
The reason a request be co-maintainer are:

* I want contribute in this module
* I see last commit was 2 years ago. That make me think you need help.

Making this a Child Issue of Parent Issue #2596907-3: Maintenance status: DEAD OR ALIVE?. Therein the current maintainer of the 2.x branch, @das-peter, has said (almost two years ago now) that the project he had done this for had decided to go with OpenLayers 3 instead, so he can no longer devote time to this. Some others in that thread had expressed interest, notably @robertwb. Some links to forks on GitHub are also in that thread.

Since then this module appears to have been put into Seeking New Maintainer / Maintenance Fixes Only status, but there haven’t even been any maintenance fixes committed in years that I know of.

This is a vitally important module and I strongly request that if @das-peter does not respond in a timely manner, that the Drupal.org people assert control and hand maintenance over to anyone capable and willing, and for now that appears to be you. @fran seva, optionally with @robertwb and anyone else interested as co-maintainers.

This appears to be the only even partly functional implementation of integration of these libraries into Drupal 7 at least here on Drupal.org (haven’t checked Sandboxes), and this is way too important to leave in this state.
