I just set up a taxonomy which is organised as such:
- parent term 1
---- child term 1.1
---- child term 1.2
---- child term 1.3
- parent term 2
---- child term 2.1
---- child term 2.2
---- child term 2.3
After translating child term 1.1, for example, the hierarchy now looks like this:
- child term 1.1
- parent term 1
---- child term 1.2
---- child term 1.3
- parent term 2
---- child term 2.1
---- child term 2.2
---- child term 2.3
I was wondering if I was missing something here or if it was a bug...

jay11377 CreditAttribution: jay11377 commentedThis was because at first, the taxonomy terms language was 'und'.
After adding a new language, I set up entity translation, which would set my term to 'en' language.
If you use entity translation, you can uncheck the "hide language dropdown" in the entity translation settings,
Then you might need to make sure that all your terms are in English by default.

My question to jay11377:
- How did you make sure the terms were in English by default?
- My original terms were in French. Do I have to set the default language of the terms to English too?
