That are preciously the tags heartbeat uses to replace words into realtime variables.

At the moment, I have no notion of what is a variable and what is meant to be a normal # or @ prefixed word. I'll think of something.
One of the reasons variables are defined with !username instead of @username is the reason for this bug, so I think there will be a workaround.

The problem occurs also with ! (exclamation mark).

On this this demo site though, http://heartbeat.menhireffect.be/page/activity-streams I see no issues with !, # or @ - Can someone share (or point to a resource), how is this implemented? Any help in this connection will be highly appreciated!

It's me who did that. Now you say it, indeed it works there :(
I'll do some testing this weekend for drupal6. It does not have priority for me, however it does need a check.

I just tried this with the new version of facebook_status and it still works. I must say that the usernames and hashtags are not replaced anymore as they were in previous versions of that module. Don't know why (I tested with formatted, raw and unformatted, but in vain).

Another thing that you must be aware off, is that the automatic (without refresh) pushing of style statussen does need some custom workarounds. There are several logged in this issue queue.

So it appears I can't reproduce the problem.
