Just to be absolutely sure: can this module be used to track form submissions, or only to track page requests?

The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to track contact form submissions, and (soon, for another project,) payments or "add to basket"-type actions.

The core module works via a field on a piece of content. There are submodules to track based on a path. So you can do some of what you are looking to do. Your tracking of form submissions will be via a thank you page.
