Possible to only display iframe if file type matches allowed file types?

Right now I need to allow images to be uploaded (.jpg, .png, etc.) and the Google Docs Viewer doesn't display those so I get an error displayed in the viewer frame. Is it possible to only conditionally show the Google Docs Viewer if the file type matches the required type?

Any thoughts on how to code this?
