First i want to say that this is an AWESOME module and I love using it.

But as I read more and more about calendar, would it be appropriate to merge efforts and have FullCalendar be a style for the Calendar module

FullCalendar is a third party plugin. The integration module (this one) is entity-agnostic and is almost stable.
Calendar only supports nodes, is not even close to being stable.

This module would have no use for any of the functions provided by calendar module, and moving this into that would just be moving the module in wholesale, with no saved code.
