I'm using a private file system and I can't figure out how to set the user name as a folder inside the private folder directory. As installed it is setting all users as 0000 and putting all files in that only directory.

FolderShare implements a virtual file system, as noted in the Design notes section on the module description

  • Folders exists only in the database, not on the file system
  • Files are stored with machine generated names and machine generated hierarchy for security and performance reasons

So what you see on the filesystem is the right behavior. You can use the client shipped with FolderShare REST module to query and interact with the file system. But if you need POSIX like storage then this module is not a right fit.
