File Alias URL Doesn't respect Private File Field Settings

After patching the 7.x-1.x version from #1492978: PHP Fatal error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array in /../sites/all/modules/filefield_paths.inc on line 33 I was able to get everything working nicely.

For my use case I am uploading files to the "private" directory which should allow the files to "only" be visible through a module link.

If I copy and paste the file alias URL into another browser the file begins to download automatically.

There is an old issue for the 6.x version and am not sure if it is the same issue #903960: 2 sets of headers being sent

I really love this module as it nicely organizes my files on the backend but not having the Aliases private complicates things a little.
