The D7 version of field_group allowed you to set the node form field as a vertical tab and that would then place it into the node form edit settings at the bottom of the page. Please see http://i.imgur.com/pUGOZ.png for an example.

Is it possible to also do this in the D8 version of field_groups?

I tried setting the field group widget to 'Tabs' and then set it to 'Vertical' but that didn't seem to move it into the node form edit settings on the right side. Am I missing something?

Some people are busy with that. But there are still some problems. See #2652642: Allow to position the group in the advanced (sidebar) column
