Federated Engine is a module that allows administrator to manage federated tables (only MySQL).
This module is specially useful if you need to access some data in another database. Enable the module and go to Structure -> Federeted Engine and start add database (must have remote connection) and add managed tables.
The module will get the schema (requires Schema module) and add it to the local schema like this you will be able to do any action as Federated Engine allows you to do on that table.
It's also planned to integrate it with Views.
Requirements
- Your local MySQL Server has Federated Engine enable
- Your remote MySQL Server allows remote connection
- Installed Schema module with this patch #1283838: Limited support for a few data types what's not supported by core
