It would be handy if the calculated area for Areas was available in their individual page eg. ***.farmos.net/farm/area/[area name]
Even if this was by having a button or pop-up for it.

BruceDawson CreditAttribution: BruceDawson commentedI agree this is useful information, and I would also like to see it included, but not sure if there's enough information available to support it. Also, the area would be that of a "flat plane" instead of topographical area - just due to the GIS information available.
Perimeter length would also be useful (especially for measuring fence lines), but has the same flat-plane caveat.

Anonymous (not verified) CreditAttribution: Anonymous commentedThe calculated area information is already available at the dash board level when you click on an area and wait about a second ([farm_name].farmos.net), but not when you click in the area name to display it's details ([farm_name].farmos.net/farm/area/[area_name]). This is where you would want access to the information while planning area uses, boundary changes or writing up the area description.

m.stentaI am actually working on a plan for this! It is needed for a grazing management module I'm planning out.
We do currently calculate polygon area and display it in the area details popup that you see when you click on a polygon in the map of farm areas. This is generated on-demand when you click on a polygon and is not stored anywhere. The next step (as described here) is to store that alongside the Farm Area records themselves.
It should also be possible for users to enter their own measurement, to override the auto-calculated measurement. And there should be a checkbox to indicate whether or not the measurement was auto-generated or entered manually.
There are a few options for how to store this data, each with some considerations, but overall this will be a pretty easy task. I am adding this to the beta16 roadmap: #2903897: [META] farmOS 7.x-1.0-beta16
Also, @EagleViewFarm created a related feature request: #2908167: Calculate lengths of LineString geometries in Farm Areas - I will add some more info to that issue right now...

m.stentaAlso changing the version to 7.x-1.x-dev since this will take place in the development branch before the next release.
