The libsodium library will be included as a standard library in PHP 7.2: https://wiki.php.net/rfc/libsodium to replace mcrypt.

Until this gets fixed in 7.x-3.x, #2942898: mcrypt extension is deprecated in PHP 7.1 and removed in PHP 7.2 can be a workaround for 7.x-2.x
