Source Sans is from a 3rd party source. That seems to make it in violation of Drupal.org's 3rd party library policy. Was there an exception requested and granted?

#862192: Allowed to include GPL font with contrib module? is an open issue about possibly allowing fonts as a general exception to this policy. It would be nice to see that resolved so all contributors have the same opportunity. It seems especially important for high-profile projects like this to set a good example for everyone else by following the established policies.

Sorry, that wasn't even on my radar. The info at http://drupal.org/node/422996 specifically mentions "libraries," "code," etc. It says nothing about fonts, which are not executable and therefore dont have the same potential for security holes as code from projects we don't control (which is the rationale for that policy).

I'll go participate in that discussion and say basically that over there.

I apologize as well. I also though that as long as it GPL (or compatible, e.g. public domain), it would be fine. Thanks for letting us know!

Based on the outcome at #862192: Allowed to include GPL font with contrib module? this looks like "works as designed."
