Hi there,

Do you plan to make changes in the search results of the Module Directory?

When the module is being searched, default sorting is set by the number of downloads, and this creates a number of problems for users and module developers.

The problem is that 99.9% of users use the default filter and not always get what they would like to see in the search results as the appropriate module is not on the first page.

This is also a problem for developers of the new modules, how can users be aware about the new module? In this case new modules may be superior to the other top ones in the various parameters or can offer better solutions users may need.

I suggest giving a closer look at the WordPress Plugin Directory, it is easy to use and gives good results because it takes into account many parameters such as keywords, number of downloads, rating, etc.

Maybe you could change the default module ranking? It can give a good boost to the development.

Title: Positioning in the Module Directory » Consider installs when ordering projects by relevancy
Parent issue: » #658048: Users should get an expected result when using search

With #658048: Users should get an expected result when using search, ordering by relevancy is doing a lot better than it was last year.

Currently if you search for a project with many extensions, such as ctools, https://www.drupal.org/project/project_module?f%5B0%5D=&f%5B1%5D=&f%5B2%... the related projects tend to outrank the more-exact match. Adding the install count as a factor in the scoring when sorting by relevancy should get the best of both worlds if balanced correctly.

Then switching to ordering by relevancy by default when searching should work well.
