Problem/Motivation:

At the moment Drupal.org does not have a reputation system. Which have been discussed on at Reputation System For D.O.. groups.drupal.org have a similar implementation with the "+" symbol. However, Drupal.org is using D7 and groups.drupal.org is using D6.

Solution:
Implement a similar solution from groups.drupal.org to Drupal.org. I think that the Reputation module is a great start for this feature. However, the Reputation module probably would required some extra work. This particular issues is for concentrate on adding the functionality on the issues comments to identify helpful comments.

Remain Task:

Here is a screenshot of a prototype.

Another option that might be interesting to explore is https://www.drupal.org/project/userpoints. It is more user focused, rather than node/comment/entity. Is this issue more focused on a reputation for users, or being able to emulate stackoverflow ranking of node and comments?

@heddn,

At the moment, with the Reputation module we can allow users to "1+" to comments and eventually we can out-stand comments that are very helpful. By using the taxonomy terms this would allow user to identify why this post was helpful for them.

We probably would have to open couple issues to implement related issue such as #2205671: Add "Was this helpful to you?" button . I think for the forum it would be nice to implement something like reputation for better answers, but the forum is going to have some major changes soon so at the moment we should not think about that yet. So to answer your question this particular issues is for concentrate on adding the functionality on the issues comments.

I have updated the issue so it would make more sense to the rest of the people.

I'm definitely supportive of this. I would like to note that we already have a reputation system in place though, so this would simply be a matter of improving it. At the moment reputation is largely based on your involvement in Core & number of modules you maintain. This is a pretty crude matrix though, and doesn't really encourage new users to step up their game and get more involved.

There was a lot of thought put into this by the Prairie Initiative starting at DrupalCon Chicago. I do think as a community we do need to step back and really think about what the implications are of something like this, before we start evaluating specific tools though. There are plenty of ways to implement a reputation system and not get the results you're hoping for. We should have a few folks read books like the O'Reilly Media - Building Web Reputation Systems:

There was an earlier discussion about badges & reputation systems:

This is really all about "gamification" too. It's been a divisive term, but there is a lot of material on both the +/- of incorporating what we know about what motivates people to engage in an activity. There's a lot to look at and consider, so I set up a group to try to have some discussion around this topic:
https://groups.drupal.org/gamification

Certainly there has been abuse of these mechanics and any effort to introduce them needs to be considered carefully. I don't think that any online community can simply choose to ignore these techniques though and survive.

And ya, before we jump to the modules, let's make sure we take some time to understand how it could impact our community.
