Lessons nodes are filling up with spam on DrupalLadder.org. As of today there are 27 pages of lessons, the majority of which appear to be spam. Perhaps enable Mollom or other spam filtering for the site registration and or for the lesson node/add form. Also, weed out spam accounts.

Ho-boy. I know we had Mollom enabled before, but I think we disabled it because it was choking around the time of Drupalcon Munich. I just added it back to the user reg form, for the time being anyway, but still need to go through and clean out the junk.

Just nuked a ton of spam users and the content they created. There are a ton of users who have never logged in, and potentially could add new spam later on. Is it safe to nuke every account that has a) never logged in, and b) has no role other than authenticated user? I'm worried about nuking any legit users in doing so.

I've been cleaning up spam every few days, and keep forgetting to check the registration time on user accounts before I nuke them: I'm not sure if new spammers are getting past Mollom, or if they're using old user accounts that were created before Mollom was enabled.

In case of the latter: the attached View definition will make user cleanup easier, using Views Bulk Operations. Requires this patch to VBO, to add the Cancel User operation: http://drupal.org/node/1799484#comment-6540578

I'll do this on production once I get VBO up there, after we get some pending updates in place.

Perhaps adding another spam prevention module/technology such as http://drupal.org/project/botcha to the system might help. If the user accounts are not bots, BOTCHA won't likely help, but might be worth a shot.

I'm unsure if botcha plays nice with Mollom.

I've been checking for spam about once a week, and since that initial clean out after enabling Mollom, the problem has been drastically reduced. I'll continue to monitor the content list, but I think we're in good shape now.
