Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
Firstly - Congrats and Kudos for getting this work into core! Amazing. Will be a game changer for all of us.
I realise this may be premature, and perhaps is covered in a follow up, but I failed at the first hurdle, and may not be the only person to bump my head here, so thought it worth logging an issue.
1. Enable experimental media module.
2. Go to create a media type.
3. Can't select a media source (and no clues on how to add a media source, or what a media source is)
4. Can't save, because media source is required.
Which seems like a dead end at this point.

Guessing here, but possibly, maybe, we need that to land, to solve this issue?

seanBHi kattekrab,
That is correct. The first part of the module that landed is basically just an API. The file source plugin (and also image source and oEmbed source) are in separate issues. There is a whole bunch of work that needs to be done before this is considered stable for 8.4.x. The roadmap for this is in the issue summary of #2825215: Media initiative: Roadmap.
For now I think we can close this issue since this was (for now) by design. Thanks for taking the time to check media out and post the issue!
