Looks like this is actually the fault of this CSS rule on CODE elements:

white-space: pre-wrap;

Actually, currently not all the code samples have that problem, just some of them, and it appears to be because some of the code samples have < br > tags embedded in them. So I think this needs to be fixed in the HTML markup for the page itself.
